Summertime is a great time to be out on the River, taking in the beautiful scenery, and celebrating the South River. The South River Sojourn is an opportunity for members to get out on the River in kayaks and canoes, and spend the day admiring the River’s natural beauty. Each sojourn ends with a picnic and a “wade-in”, a method of measuring water clarity made famous by former State Senator Bernie Fowler, whereby participants see how far they can wade into the water before their shoes “disappear.”

This year we will start the paddle at the London Town community beach on Shore Dr., near intersection of Shore and Arundel Rd., adjacent to a wonderful living shoreline project installed last year - we'll then paddle through Glebe Creek, around Cedar Point and past Brewer Creek and Limehouse Cove, then around Mayo Point into Selby Bay.  Location for picnic and Wade In will be hosted by Selby on the Bay community.

Kayaks can be rented from Annapolis Canoe and Kayak or the Patuxent RIVERKEEPER - contact them directly to reserve your kayak and we'll transport to/from the sojourn site.  Let them know your rental is for this event in order to get the Federation's discount rate!  All day rental fee from either place is $25 - this includes paddle and PFD.  South River Federation will transport kayaks to/from ACK and the Patuxent Riverkeeper will transport kayaks rented from his organization to/from the event.

Directions to London Towne 

Take Route 2 South (Solomon's Island Road), go over South River Bridge. Continue about 0.6 miles (3 traffic lights); turn left at the 3rd traffic light onto Mayo Road. Go about 0.8 miles (2 traffic lights) and turn left at the second traffic light onto Londontown Road. Go about 1.0 mile, turn right on Arundel Rd. then right again on Shore Dr.  Drop kayaks off at the community beach and park along any community road EXCEPT on the water side of Shore Dr.

Directions to Selby on the Bay

From Rt. 2 in Edgewater, take 214 (Central Ave.) toward Mayo (east).  Turn left on Selby Blvd., then turn right on Beach Dr., than a quick left on Arundel Dr. then another right on 1st St.  Community beach is on the left.
