Wetland guided canoe tour of Muddy Creek on the Rhode River.

Join members of the Scenic Rivers Land Trust and scientists from the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center for a 2 hour guided tour through this Chesapeake Bay wetland within the 550 acre parcel now protected by conservation easement with the SRLT. Learn about the ecology of Chesapeake Bay wetlands. Find out why fish and crabs depend on wetlands, and how scientists at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center are studying them.

Pick up a complementary trail map and brochure to strike out on your own to explore the rich and diverse surroundings along 14 miles of undeveloped shoreline. Let us know in advance if you plan to bring your own canoe or kayak, so that we may register you for  launch permit. All boats need to be pulled from the water by 4PM. Minimum age 6 yrs. PFD’s required while on the water. Children under 15 yrs must be accompanied by adult.

 

You may either use Smithsonian canoes or bring your own. $25/person. $12 is for the Smithsonian canoe rental, and the remaining is a charitable contribution toward SRLT. You will be learning about a true “Gem” of the Chesapeake Bay, and your contribution will be matched 2:1 by the Biophilia Foundation to help fund future educational and conservation efforts of the SRLT.
