What a great time we had! 8 adults and 7 kids. We had a discussion before we started about our purpose there that morning and looked at a map so we could see how where we were standing, behind South River High School near Glebe Branch leads to Glebe Creek, Glebe Bay, South River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.
The kids were really excited and were competing to see who could spot trash first. They were really disgusted that people treated the Earth that way (their words). The kids spotted frog eggs in the creek and asparagus fern for us. The adults were happy for the workout. When we reached the stream behind the ball fields, a group of kids and Dads on bikes were curious about what we were doing. Our kids were so enthusiastic about telling them, that they all pitched in for that stretch!
Anne Arundel County Department of Pulic Works, Southern District sent 4 guys with equipment to haul the trash away. Well, these guys weren't the type to sit around and wait. They jumped right in and came into the woods along the stream with us and helped haul an especially cantankerous machine dumped there. The motor was filled with oil and would've polluted the creek. John Carrette sure pulled his weight with that one, too!
Here are the volunteers who so cheerfully helped. A specail thanks to Brownie Troop 997!
