Executive Director, Matt Berres
The South River Federation Board has named Matt Berres as its first Executive Director (start date 2-20-08). Matt comes to our organization with over six years of river and leadership experience with the Potomac Conservancy. During these six years, Matt helped the Conservancy grow from a three-person shop to a $1.2 million dollar operation.
Most recently Matt has been Grounds Department Manager for Greenbelt Homes and responsible for the care of a 250-acre residential community, which as a result of his efforts now has several demonstration rain gardens and a rain barrel purchase program. At the same time he has been enrolled at Johns Hopkins University for a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Non-Profit Management. He will complete this degree in 2008.
“Matt is very highly respected in the Maryland watershed community and the Board is extremely pleased that he will be leading our organization,” said Kincey Potter, Board President. “He is the perfect person to take the South River Federation to the next level.”
“The South River Federation is a strong and respected voice for protecting the health and scenic beauty of the South River and the Chesapeake Bay,” said Matt. “I look forward to the opportunity to build upon a track record of success and work toward a future of clean water, productive fisheries, and natural shorelines. South RIVERKEEPER®, Drew Koslow and Program Coordinator, Cindy Wallace
Drew was hired as the South RIVERKEEPER® in April 2004. Before that, he was president of the Federation on a volunteer basis. Until the office was first established in 2004, the Federation was an all-volunteer organization. Drew's knowledge as a scientist proves invaluable to his work in this position as advocate for the river.
Cindy came to the Federation in 2005. She moved here from South Carolina and has experience with non-profits. She brings great organizational skills to the Federation and has brought us from an all volunteer to a staffed organization.

Membership Coordinator/Administrative Assistant, Linda Kennedy
Linda Callahan Kennedy has joined South River Federation as the new Membership Coordinator/Administrative Assistant. A native Annapolitan, Linda has enjoyed a life long love of the Chesapeake Bay. Having sailed her whole life, she is now raising two young sailors; Emily and Liam – with whom she has shared her passion for the Bay and the outdoors.
Linda attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland and lives in Hillsmere Shores with her two children. She is looking forward to helping preserve our greatest treasure; the Chesapeake Bay, it’s tributaries and wildlife.
