Grab your kayak and head to the community beach in Hillsmere for the 6th Annual Sojourn and Wade-In! Hillsmere Shores Community Association and MD DNR's Lower Western Shore Tributary Team graciously host this year’s event. This is truly a wonderful way to get to know your River up close and to see its beauty as well as its stressors. It’s a fun event for the whole family.
We’ll begin the morning with coffee and donuts provided by the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Co. Then we’ll start the paddle around 9:00. We will head up into Harness Creek to view oyster reefs and natural habitat along Quiet Waters Park property. After the paddle, we’ll meet back at Hillsmere beach for the Bernie Fowler-style Wade-In led by the Trib Team. The Trib Team will provide burgers and dogs (including veggie burgers) and volunteers will provide potluck goodies and deserts.
To get to the beach: From Forest Drive, turn onto Hillsmere Drive at the Bay Forest Shopping Center. Pass the entrance to Quiet Waters Park and continue on Hillsmere Drive until it dead ends at Bay View Drive. Follow the signs for parking.
Bring your own kayak or rent one from: Annapolis Canoe and Kayak (previously Spring River) in Eastport, 410-263-2303. OR from The Patuxent Riverkeeper, 301-249-8200.
Please RSVP and let us know if you will join us for the paddle, picnic, or both so we may provide plenty of food and drinks. See you on the river!
There is no fee for this event, though non-members are encouraged to join the Federation. Donations are welcome and are tax deductible.
