ANNAPOLIS - People who live on the South River and contractors who work on the river's waterfront can learn about new shoreline techniques during workshops next month.
The South River Federation and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation are teaming up to offer expertise on how the river's shoreline can be protected from erosion while providing habitat for wildlife.
The workshops will be held on Sept. 15 at the St. John's College boat house in Annapolis. The morning (8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) is targeted to contractors, while the afternoon (12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) is targeted to property owners.
The workshops will cover the options for property owners, the permitting process and how to pay for it. South River Federation members surveyed the entire river to come up with suggestions for how the shoreline can be improved.
Speakers include experts from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the bay foundation, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and private consultants.
The workshop is being held next to St. John's College's new living shoreline along College Creek. Tours of the project will be available.
The workshop is free and lunch will be provided. But space is limited, so registration is required by Sept. 8. For information, contact Marcy Damon at 443-482-2156 or MDrestoration@cbf.org.
