OPERATION CLEARWATER- SOUTH RIVER, SUMMER 2008

When your association joins OPERATION CLEARWATER-SOUTH RIVER the South River Federation will provide regular monitoring of the microbial water quality at your waterfront recreational area.  For a nominal cost per user, Operation Clearwater will provide an early warning of water safety for your members and their children.  This program monitors fecal enterococci, bacteria that provide a reliable indicator of contamination in swimming and recreational waters by fecal wastes of mammals and birds.  OPERATION CLEARWATER-SOUTH RIVER is conducted in partnership with the Severn River Association and Dr. Sally Hornor, AACC Professor of Microbiology and Severn River Association member. Further information about monitoring enterococci can be found here.

Samples will be collected on Wednesdays between 7:00 a.m. and noon from a location of your choosing at your community swimming facility by a trained South River Federation representative.   If you do not specify the sampling location, Federation staff will use our best professional judgment to sample your community swimming beach.   If the analysis detects enterococci counts greater than 105/100 ml, the Federation will call or email your designated community representative by Friday morning so you can adjust your waterfront usage accordingly. Please provide the email address for notification in the form below.

Each week, data will be posted our Bacteria Results page.

There are two testing schedules:

  1. A fourteen-week weekly schedule, costing $360, May 21 through August 20; and

  2. a seven-week bimonthly schedule, costing $185, May 21 through Aug. 20.

These prices are based on $25/sample, and a one time $10 processing fee to help cover administrative expenses.  Send the application below by mail or e-mail by May 23, 2008.  Your prompt action will benefit your community.  Please Do It Now!
