2008 South River on the Half Shell

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. A good time was had by all who braved the weather to attend.

2008 Volunteer of the Year Award

This year, we chose 2 of our many dedicated volunteers to give our "2007 Volunteer of the Year" award:

Marlene Simoncini             and                 Chris Trumbauer

Marlene Simoncini (R) receives her award from Lee Ann Candon                             Chris Trumbauer (L) receives his from Drew Koslow

Marlene has donated her graphic design services for almost two years now and has brought our newsletter, Watershed Watch to a professional level.

Chris Trumbauer has gone way beyond his duties as Vice-President of the Board of Directors and has taken over management of the Watershed Snapshot and has also been a major contributor to the South River Scorecard. (We don’t usually award this to a Board Member, but we felt this case was exceptional).

Thank you Marlene and Chris!

With great enthusiasm, South River Federation announces the return of our biggest fundraiser of the year, “South River on the Half Shell”, a silent and live auction. CBF's Philip Merrill Center's beautiful waterfront setting will be background to fabulous food and drink, live entertainment by Rob Levit, interesting people and incredible items for bid.  Proceeds will ensure the Federation continues its work to restore, protect and preserve South River and its watershed.

Specifically, we will continue our efforts through

  • a full time RIVERKEEPER®  who monitors the river and responds to citizen concerns;
  • creating new and maintaining existing oyster reefs that help filter increasing loads of sediment entering the South River;
  • creating living shorelines to create habitat for crabs, fish and waterfowl;
  • weekly bacteria and oxygen testing;
  • monitoring construction and erosion control sites and
  • monitoring stormwater runoff monitoring.

You can help support the South River Federation by donating an item or service for this event.  We expect over 200 attendees and even more will hear about the event and the generosity of donors like you through our website and newsletter.  This donation form can be filled out and returned to us by email, fax or the US postal service.

You can help support the South River Federation by being a proud sponsor
